One-Piece Guedel Airway (OPA)

An Oropharyngeal Airway (OPA) (or Guedel airway) is a curved, rigid plastic device inserted into an unconscious patient’s mouth to prevent the tongue from obstructing the epiglottis. It maintains an open airway, allows for suctioning, and acts as a bite block. It is sized from the jaw angle to the mouth's center.

  • Combining two materials with very different physical characteristics into one moulding, Intersurgical's One-Piece design eliminates the separate bite block found in all conventional Guedel airways.

Loose or detached bite blocks constitute a real threat to patient safety and have been the subject of several hazard notices in the past. This One-piece design overcomes all of the associated risks.

As well as improved safety, the One-piece also incorporates a soft tip reducing the risk of trauma to the patient.
